About Me

Basic Facts

Hiya. I'm Matthew, a student, designer, software developer, and gaming enthusiast from Northern Virginia currently studying Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.

Professional Work

In the summer of 2017, I interned at Redfin. My main project was to create a "Customer List" feature in Redfin's CRM tool, Agent Tools, that Redfin's real estate agents could use to organize, filter, and keep notes on their customers. This required a surprising amount of work on the querying system to make it possible to add new filters in a manageable, programmatic way.

In the summer of 2016, I interned at Google. I worked on improving the shopping experience for spoken queries with local intent — for example, I worked on creating the responses that Google gives for "where can I buy a Nintendo 3DS nearby" if the question is a spoken query (e.g., via "Ok Google" on an Android device). I also got to do some work with prerelease versions of the Google Home, in particular helping shape some external APIs.

The two previous summers I interned at MITRE, where I worked on web-based development and visualization tools at the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development. Unfortunately, all of those tools were internal, so I have nothing that I can link to here.
